John McCauley – Our Kiwanis brother, mentor, leader, and above all friend

The entire Northport Kiwanis family is in mourning for the sudden, great loss of our friend, John McCauley.

John always had a smile and a quick joke for each of us whenever we met. Some of us wondered how it was possible that immediately as we made our remarks for our “happy dollars”, he could have such a quick quip. It was nearly out of his mouth, before we closed ours!

If he ever had a bad day, none of us in Kiwanis ever knew, for his disposition was always happy. He was devoted to Kiwanis and the causes we support. In fact, for those who are not aware, John was one of our past Presidents – but he served 3 consecutive terms!

He never missed assisting at any of the events for which we are known – from Cow Harbor Day, to the Salvation Army bell ringing, to the Golf Outing, to Installation dinners. No one present at one of the Sister Doubtfire skits presented by John will ever forget! Not to mention Barry King of CNN.

He had our respect, our love and our best wishes – and will forever. We have lost a great friend – but John we are all proud to have known you. Godspeed.

Note: Services will be held Friday 6pm-9pm; Saturday 2pm-5pm & 7-9pm at Nolan’s. in lieu of flowers, donations are being asked to the Nature Conservancy.

We are working on arranging a time where Northport Kiwanis would visit en mass to show our respects. Information will be forthcoming for those who can make the specific time.
